Zarb-e-Azb launched: Air Marshal Sohail Aman tasked to bring down terrorists in initial phase.
A much awaited military operation in North Waziristan Agency has finally been launched today at the behest of the government by Pakistan’s Security Forces. Codenamed as Operation Zarb-e-Azb in the press release issued by the DG ISPR, this offensive has been aimed ‘against foreign and local terrorists who are hiding in sanctuaries in North Waziristan Agency.’
The initiation of Zarb-e-Azb, named after the sword of Prophet Mohammad, was preceded by the airstrikes of Pakistan Air Force jets in the early hours of Sunday in Degan and Datta Khel area of North Waziristan Agency. Reportedly 105 terrorists, mostly foreigners were exterminated in this onslaught, including Abu Abdul Rehman Almani, the key commander of Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) and the mastermind of suicide operation carried out by Uzbek and Uighur terrorists at Karachi Airport on June 10.
The derailing of ongoing negotiations by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Central Shura through its roguish attacks destroyed the already frail peace process. The increased spate in attacks including a foiled cross border mobilisation attempt by TTP militants with the intent of attacking Pakistan Army check post in Bajaur agency and the Karachi Airport by TTP affiliate, IMU, reenforced the view that the militants are not serious about peace.
A military source privy to the tactical matters of Operation Zarb-e-Azab confided with this scribe that PAF will lead the attack in the initial phase. Air Marshal Sohail Aman, a distinguished security strategist cum former fighter pilot has been handed over the charge to sort out the mess through jet sorties before the army steps in for ground assault.
Note: PKKH will keep its readers updated about the military offensive in NWA.
