TOKYO: Plans are underway for construction of the world’s tallest building made out of wood in Japan’s capital Tokyo, which will be strong enough to withstand regular earthquakes.

Japanese construction company Sumitomo Forestry unveiled plan to build a 350-metre 70-storey building that will be just 10% steel and the rest wood.

The venture is known as W350 Project which will have internal beams, braces and balconies on all four sides.

Experts say that the project’s cost is almost double to that required to build a conventional skyscraper of the same size.

However, the plan is expected to reach completion by 2041.
