World’s most expensive football player just performed Umrah

Days after Manchester United Football Club grabbed the UEFA Europa League title, the team’s star player Paul Pogba headed to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah – the minor pilgrimage to Mecca.

The French footballer first announced his trip on Instagram, where he wrote that he is on his way “to go say thank you for this season”, adding “en route to my prayers”.

He then posted a video of himself standing in front of the Kaaba donning the traditional white garb worn by Muslim men during pilgrimage.

As his trip coincides with the start of Ramadan, Pogba added a caption wishing his followers a “Ramadan Kareem”.

Pogba’s video quickly went viral

Pogba’s video garnered over three million views on Instagram and almost 50,000 shares on Facebook in just one day.

“Most beautiful thing I’ve seen in my life”

Comments came pouring in

Fans were excited to spot the star player in Mecca

This was not the first time Pogba visited Mecca, as he had previously performed Hajj, the mandatory annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca that every capable Muslim is expected to do at least once in their lifetime.

The central midfielder was born to Guinean parents of Muslim faith and he has not shied away from publicly expressing his faith.

The 24-year-old became the most expensive footballer in history last summer after Manchester United paid Juventus a reported £89m ($114m) fee.

He had previously captained his nation’s Under-20 team to victory at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup, taking home the Best Player award for his performance at the tournament.

Pogba was also awarded the Best Young Player Award for his performance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
