Facebook is unrolling a new update for WhatsApp which will let users play Facebook and Instagram videos directly through the app without having to launch a separate application.

In short, if somebody sends you a link to either a Facebook video or an Instagram videos, it will play directly through WhatsApp itself. This way, you won’t have to close your conversation thread or the app to watch videos posted on the aforementioned platforms.

WhatsApp is the “default” online messaging app used in almost every part of the world. It was purchased by Facebook back in 2014 and the company undertook major changes to make it better and more usable.

More Features Expected

Do note that Instagram is also owned by Facebook, the company’s recent update will surely encourage new users to switch to WhatsApp. The new update also gets the picture-in-picture feature which allows users to continue watching sent or received videos even as you switch between different conversations.

Facebook is interlinking all of its subsidiaries. Before, Instagram started allowing sharing Instagram stories on Facebook. The company is expected to link WhatsApp and Instagram in a similar way which will let users share their Instagram stories on WhatsApp as well.

The ability to watch Facebook/Instagram videos directly from within WhatsApp is only available on some iOS devices, for now, there’s no word on when this feature will be made available to Android users.
