Since then the negotiations between the Assad authorities and the UN have been on-going, with the UN observer team ready in Cyprus, to leave in a few hours’ notice. On August 1, UN deputy spokesman Eduardo del Buey said “the departure of the team is now imminent”. But at that time ‘diplomats and chemical weapons experts had raised doubts about whether they will find anything, since the alleged incidents took place months ago’. Guardian
In April, the Syrian Foreign Ministry had ‘compared efforts to broaden the probe to the UN’s role in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq by the United States’. It is “at odds with the Syrian request. It shows there are hidden intentions…which violate Syrian sovereignty,” a statement on state television said. “Syria cannot accept these manoeuvres.” RT
The question is that would the Syrian Regime be as foolish to use chemical weapons, when the whole world is expecting them to make such a blunder and give the UN a chance to sanction NATO entry into Syria, even if they have the largest stockpile of CWs with them? That too when the UN team is laced and ready right at its doorstep!
Jean Pascal Zanders, a leading expert on chemical weapons who until recently was a senior research fellow at the European Union’s Institute for Security Studies said, “It’s not just that we can’t prove a Sarin Attack… it doesn’t make sense that we don’t see videos, that we don’t see photos, showing bodies of the dead, and the reddened faces and the bluish extremities of the affected,” he said. ‘Photos and a video accompanying the report showed rebel fighters preparing for chemical attacks by wearing gas masks. Sarin is absorbed through the skin, and even small amounts can kill within minutes.’ McClatchy
In this backdrop, the sudden explosion in Ghouta, and that too when the UN observer team had just arrived in Damascus does raise a perplexity in the mind of a global observer. Even more perplex is the condition of the Muslim Ummah, whose hearts are glued with the Rebels, who have surely face enormous atrocities in this war, as the multifaceted proxy-war phenomenon tends to snatch away purity from their cause.
