Check out the gallery below for the world’s top five smartphone makers by shipments for the second quarter this year, according to Counterpoint.

BBK Electronics is technically the world’s third largest smartphone maker, shipping more than 39 million units during the quarter, slightly less than second-placed Apple AAPL +1.27%’s 40.4 million units, said the report.

“Oppo and Vivo’s growth story has surprised everyone in the industry,” said James Yan, research director at Counterpoint. “However, this has been as a result of years of investment in building strong offline distribution channels, competent R&D team, slicker product portfolio and aggressive marketing and promotions.”
