ISLAMABAD: An operation has been launched along the Pak-Afghan border to stop infiltration of terrorists from the other side, the Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement on Tuesday.

The ISPR said that the operation has been initiated to keep check on cross the border movement and additional contingents of army were deployed in Raj Gul valley of Khyber Agency.

“An Operation has been launched along Pak-Afghan border to reinforce troops deployment in Rajgal Valley to effectively check and guard against terrorists movement along high mountains and all weather passes in Khyber Agency,” the ISPR statement read.

Moreover, security forces today destroyed five suspected militant hideouts in Tirah Valley.

According to Additional Secretary Defence Major General Abid Nazir, the construction of the Torkham gate has already been completed. Travel documents have been declared necessary for crossing the border, he added.

Several institutions such as National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), customs etc are actively monitoring movement across the border. CCTV cameras have also been installed on the border.

In July, the Daesh (Islamic State) group´s leader in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Hafiz Saeed, was killed in a US strike in the border region between the two countries.

In July, tensions and skirmishes on Torkham border had flared up upon installation of a gate from the Pakistani side along the border to stop militants crossing over from Afghanistan.
