Vitamins are known to be helpful in regaining muscular and bone strength. However, an obsessive habit may not be healthy for a person, according to scientists.
Researchers say that there is a certain limit to how many vitamins can be ingested in the system, but stressed that most of the nutrients and necessary elements for health are found in natural food, such as fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish.
According to University of Hohenheim’s Hans Konrad Biesalski, there’s a doubtful, unexplored area after “anything up to three times the Dietary Reference Intake, [which]is safe,” German website Deutsche Welle (DW) reported.
DRIs are nutrients-related recommendations set forth by National Academies of Sciences’ Food and Nutrition Board, stating in terms of values what kind of food intakes are required for people, based on health, dietary habits, age, and gender.
Why is an excessive intake of nutrients harmful?
That’s because the more the nutrients a person takes, the higher the chances are for issues such as diarrhoea, throwing up, and nausea.
In addition, the website, citing new research, mentions “that taking more dietary supplements than needed may actually increase your risk of developing cancer and heart disease.”
