More unnamed graves found in Beerwah area of Badgam
Srinagar, June 23 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown will be observed on Tuesday on the occasion of Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh’s visit to the Kashmir Valley to convey him the message that the Kashmiris reject India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.
Call for the shutdown has been given by the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Shabbir Ahmed Shah as well as the High Court Bar Association of the occupied territory.
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar deplored that Kashmir had been turned into a garrison ahead of the visit of Indian Prime Minister. He strongly denounced the harassment of civilians in the name of so-called security and arrest of a large number of innocent youth during crackdown operations in Srinagar, Badgam, Pampore, Shopian, Islamabad, Kulgam, Sopore, Pulwama and other areas.
Meanwhile, ahead of Manmohan’s visit to the territory, a local human rights group, the Voice of Victims, in a report has revealed the presence of around 150 unidentified bodies in unnamed mass graves in Beerwah area of Badgam. It said that sixteen unidentified persons were buried in just one such grave. The locals told the Voice of Victims that they had buried six headless, twenty charred and a number of mutilated bodies which were handed over to them by Indian police and army claiming that the deceased were militants who were killed in encounters in different areas. The residents further said that in 1991 during the exhumation of one of the graves it was found that the buried person was an innocent youth hailing from Harvan area of Srinagar.
On the other hand, the puppet authorities have told a Srinagar court that they will arrest the APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a case registered against him in 2010. The case pertains to a rally from Eidgah to Lal Chowk in Srinagar on Eid day in 2010. The court has already remanded the illegally detained senior liberation leader, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, to four-day police remand in the case.
APHC leaders, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Yasmeen Raja, Zafar Akbar Butt and Sheikh Muhammad Yaqoob, in their statements urged India to fulfill the promises made by its rulers with the Kashmiri people of giving them an opportunity to decide their fate by themselves.
Every eye turned moist when victims of Kunanposhpora mass rape by Indian troops recounted the bone-chilling incident at a function in Srinagar and sought support of people to bring the perpetrators to justice. The function was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society in the backdrop of recent order of a local court in Kupwara to reinvestigate the case.
