The National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM), a civil scientific research and development organization of Pakistan in collaboration with Pakistan Air Force (PAF) designed and started to build an Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) in 2009..
This droneis named as “BURRAQ”.The formation of Burraq is influenced by the US Predator and the Chinese CASC Rainbow CH-3. Pakistan Army now uses this technology in counter insubordination operation in North- West Pakistan
The name, Burraq, comes from the name of horsementioned in Surah Al-Isra in the HolyQur’an. According to Islamic teachings Buraaq is a steadfast horse came from Heaven which carried Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) from Mecca to Mi’raj (The Night Journey). Burraqis claimed to be the most accurate pinpointed UAV; it carries a wide range of imagery and motion sensors, and is equipped with a laser guided missile named “Barq”. This dronehas the ability to fire missiles on objects either moving or stationary.
Pakistani scientists’ claim that with the successful tests of Burraq, now Pakistan attained the ability to conduct drone strikes on itsown, without the help of United States”.
Before unveiling of this technology to the country, Pakistan Army has conducted several UAV strikes in operations of Khyber Agency in Tirah valley.
