MERE LOG Tent Village [Photos]- Urgent Assistance Required
KARACHI - Organizers of MERE LOG have appealed for urgent donations as total of 1,100 people are being provided temporary shelter in MERE LOG’s ‘Tent Village’ in Makli, near Thatta in Sindh.
A total of 100 tents have so far been set up since Eid-ul-Fitr (September 10th 2010) in the remote town of Makli in Sindh as thousands were left homeless by floods which ravaged Thattha and surrounding areas over the last few days.
In addition to providing temporary shelter, MERE LOG volunteers are also providing the 1,100 inhabitants of the tent village with warm meals twice a day, medical assistance counseling, and free transport services. The volunteers also distributed new clothes and sweets on Eid-ul-Fitr.
Additionally, MERE LOG has also set up a water purification plant for the village and has provided Lifesaver GerryCans in other areas for water purification.
‘Its an overwhelming situation here but we’re trying to do all we can and inshaAllah will be setting up another 250 tents in the next few days, and we need assistance to be able to provide meals for the next few days’, said a volunteer.
MERE LOG was launched on August 14th and has set up free kitchens and medical camps in many flood affected areas including Makli, Sibbi, Muzaffargarh, and Nowshera. Additionally, the MERE LOG boat service has been active in providing immediate rescue and transport in Sindh.
MERE LOG also partnered with ‘Celebrity Camp’ in Lahore on Saturday August 28th in which leading fashion designers, musicians, and sports stars including Shaoib Akhtar raised funds for the flood victims.
Managed by Lahore-based NGO Mission Pakistan, MERE LOG teams have been working round the clock in all four provinces of Pakistan. Mission Pakistan director Maria B, alongwith Noori also visited Charsadda and Swat regions to distribute Eidi, free dresses and chadars to women in refugee camps in those areas.
MERE LOG teams will also be visiting camps in Rajanpur area to distribute food rations and will be taking along with them a team of doctors to provide urgent medical care.
