Pakistan Must Reject India’s ‘Aid’ Offer
Pointing out India decision to release excess water into the Satluj and Beas rivers which has contributed to widespread flooding in Pakistan, an editorial in a Pakistani paper Sunday called on the government to reject the “hypocritical” Indian offer of aid.
“The offer of aid is akin is throwing salt on our wounds,” the editorial in the Urdu daily Nawa-i-Waqt said.
“Bharat (India) has released water into the Satluj and the Beas and has also offered relief material worth $50 lakh,” it said, referring to Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna Friday speaking to his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi and offering $5 million for flood victims in Pakistan.
“India on one hand is carrying out an indiscriminate massacre in occupied Kashmir and had the other day killed nine defenceless Kashmiris. It released water in the Satluj and Beas to exacerbate the flood havoc in Pakistan and and the other hand, threw salt on our wounds by offering us assistance of $50 lakh,” the editorial said.
It called on the Pakistani government to decline, with thanks, the Indian offer of aid because “India’s attitude was hypocritical”.
“It (India) has built dams to secure itself, and is releasing water into Pakistan’s rivers as part of its design to devastate Pakistan, using water as a weapon. Sometimes, it uses the water to flood Pakistan and sometimes, it restricts the flow to transform Pakistan into a parched desert as part of its conspiracy.”
The editorial said the Indian actions in Kashmir and through water showed “it was in effect waging a war against Pakistan which was causing the country extreme damage, while in an effort to hoodwink the world, India had expressed the offer for help.”
The Pakistani government should be extremely cautious of India’s “deceit and trickery”, it said, adding there were only two ways to counter India – “construction of major dams itself, and sustained efforts to free the occupied Kashmiri Valeey, where a genocide of Kashmiri Muslims was underway.”
“If the Pakistani government falters on either of these two objectives, India will succeed in its unholy designs of dismembering Pakistan,” the editorial said.
Pakistan is grappling with its worst ever floods that have left over 1,600 people dead and affected over 14 million people. A media report put the total economic loss due to the floods at around Rs.250 billion ($2.92 billion).

Pakistan has a myriad of problems and issues that need to be urgently addressed, we don’t need to indulge ourselves in insult and counter insult because even that is counter productive.
We have an inherent problem with the Indian government, it’s military and intelligence services and i make no bones about it. Generally, i don’t perceive Hindu’s and Hinduism as the problem and i think it’s important to emphasize this despite what over zealous elements on this forum propagate, which is pathetic, unsocial, filthy and disgusting. This site has become anti-Hindu/India and i, as a Pakistani observer, am very concerned.
I think we should channel our energies positively by way of constructing a new and prosperous Pakistan because once our own house is solid and strong, no might can harm us. As it happens, a weak and entangled Pakistan is easy prey for many people, as we are seeing with insulting comments appearing in the press about our country.
I humbly appeal to you and others on this forum, keep Pakistan first and foremost for that is the objective and goal – it is also the need of the hour. Khuda Hafiz my dear brother.

If you read through these messages and those on other threads, you will get a clear idea of what their mentality is. With the few notable exceptions, they are largely scum. I just believe as Pakistani’s we should be bigger and better than this. Alot of people come on this forum who are not Pakistani’s – they have their reasons, maybe some of them want a better understanding of us, maybe some of them want to even poke fun at our nation which is at it’s ‘nadir’ right now and maybe some want to incite us to such a point that they illicit some sort of negative and insulting response from us after which they can say ’see i told you so’. That’s my opinion and i don’t know whether it is reserved or not, but i believe Islam and Pakistan are alot more important right now – of course whilst also keeping a watchful eye on our neighbour to the east
I firmly believe that eventually the Indian problem will take care of itself anyway. The curtailment of their influence in a post-war Afghanistan will be a big blow to them and future events are heading that way. With regards to Russia, i don’t believe they want to antagonise Pakistan right now – they want to negate American influence in the region more than anything. Gen Kiyani visited Russia last year on a strategic visit and Zardari will be visiting his Russian counterparts towards the end of fall this year. Why? Pakistan is wary but is extending it’s hands towards the Russians and it is interesting. America, on the other hand, wants more and more say in Pakistan and wants to expand it’s presence, after all we are a satellite state, shameful as it is. Remember the ultimate aim is to weaken and subdue Pakistan to such a point where a military invasion becomes the doctrine of neccesity. They hope to implement this by 2015 at the latest but i’m of the view that alot more will happen between now and then which will change the geo political scenario and manipulate America into rethinking it’s strategy. Afghanistan is a mess and America must first find a solution to this for which Pakistan is indispensable. Political and social anarchy is spreading in Pakistan and if not curbed coud trigger the imposition of martial law – a scenario which no Pakistani wants to see. Let’s see how events transpire.

Brother I agree completely with your analysis. It seems that Pakistan has been a thron in the side of many since the country’s very birth – we all know how desperate the British and the Hindustanis were to kill the idea off, even as late as 1946. When I think about the potential of Pakistan, I am in complete awe – to think that despite all our hardships over the years, we are still a nuclear power and major international player. It is nothing short of a blessing from The Almighty.
You’re completely correct about Hindustan’s failures in Afghanistan – I think the writing is generally on the wall for them, in light of NATO’s complete failure to subdue the country. It’s a shame they didn’t read just a few cursory history books before sending their third-rate engineers and mickey-mouse doctors there – the Pathans are far too proud to accept the magnanimity of a country which still prides itself on burying female babies. These truly are interesting times, and the next few months in Pakistan will be crucial in determining how much of a long-term impact these devastating floods will have in the country. Ultimately, we will not rise until we acknowldege that our very existence is hated and feared by many, and that we are, essentially, completely alone.

I think this is our fault as well. We the Pakistanis are still living in so much of mistrust and suspicions (Provinces vs Provinces) that we have not been able to formulate one national policy on anything. Everything is based on regional or provincial based. Had we developed some cohesiveness or nationalism in our country, we would have built several dams on these rivers to protect our countrymen from these floods.
Its easy to blame India for releasing water into these two rivers Sutlej and Beas, but who stopped us from building more dams on these rivers? Nobody. Regarding the comment you made about being in awe of Pakistan – boy it is both amazing and nothing short of an ‘ejaz-e-khuda’ or miracle. Left to humans this country would have been ravaged and pillaged (we can see signs of this) which must mean that there is a mightier entity keeping a silent vigilant watch over this country, a nation that sacrificed more than three million of it’s inhabitants at inception – the fact that Pakistan is still standing is testament to this mighty entity.
Let me share an interesting fact about how rich and potentially wealthy Pakistan really is. Everyone knows about the Thar coal reserves, the gas reserves and copper/diamond mines in Balochistan (worth $65bn and are the largest deposits in the world), the vast mineral reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the salt mines in Khewra (Punjab). Recently it was discovered that Pakistan has the equivalent of 300bn barrels of oil both on and off shore in Balochistan province, some experts put the estmates at six trillion barrels – That is phenomenal. You see now why Pakistan must be reigned in and secured by the imperial powers?
Another sad thing that i must mention here is that alot of work on our massive gas reserves in Balochistan was contracted out to foreign firms at meagre prices, a huge loss to Pakistan. After the military coup in 1999, Pakistan was to be out put under the strict guidelines of the IMF and WB – the REAL reason why Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz were brought to power. As part of the IMF/WB measures, state institutions like PSO and PSM (see why Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz tangled with the CJP?) had to be privatised. This is the damage our rulers have done and yet people still defend them and claim they were good and sincere people. They had vested interests in the copper and gold mines in Balochistan and made alot of money, the same with Zardari now – why is his government silent about these mines? Because they are involved in minting dollars to the T. It’s sad but Pakistan only owns 25% of the copper project in Balochistan, the rest had been sold off to a trio of American, English and Australian firms
No doubt one or two (not you) will leave comments and ask me to provide proof of my statements, my answer is simple: go, research and find the truth yourself, why believe me? Truth never hides, one only needs to fulfil the conditions of impartiality and sincerity to search and find it.

I too have heard numerous reports about the immense levels of natural mineral wealth that lie untapped under Pakistan’s sacred soil – brother even the wood and marble, which tumbles from the mountain faces, is of such high quality it can be sold across the world. Punjab has enough food to feed the whole country. The energy potential of Sindh and Balochistan could power the nation several times over, if exploited correctly and with maximum emphasis on the welfare of those provinces. The fierce Pathans of Khyber have proven, from the earliest weeks of the country’s existence, that they are among the most patriotic, zealous Pakistanis to grace the land. The Kashmiris, who have suffered under foreign Hindustani occupation for so much of their lives, can still boast some of the most heavenly, heartstoppingly beautiful land there is on this planet. Every single province in Pakistan is so blessed, it is impossible to believe that the country cannot rise from this current challenge.
Just read the messages from other Pakistanis here. However much a few Hindustanis try to brag about this duplicitous ‘aid’ package, the average Pakistani is livid at the very idea. It is only our black-hearted government that sees this differently, and that too as a result of some cajoling by Uncle Sam. Why is there so much hatred here? Why is there so much anger? Pakistani or Indian, muslim or non-muslim, don’t we all have so many similarities? As an Indian, I can tell you that I was taught to respect all the religions. I know that there are a few people in India who for their own benifits, say bad things about muslims. They are selfish and do not want the country to progress. But, please don’t generalize India as anti-muslim. What is happening in Pakistan is a natural disaster and the common people are suffering. If we, Indians and Pakistanis stay friends, we can teach the western countries a lesson. All this hatred between India and Pakistan was started by the British and is now continued by the Americans. Our path of friendship may not be easy. There are selfish people. But, we can definitely give it a shot. It is very saddening to see so much hatred on this board. We are ignoring the real tragedy of the flood, and instead focusing on a “hatred” that has been drilled in us over the last 60 years.
I am Indian, I don’t think being Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Scientologist, etc has anything to do with it. I have met and have many friends from Pakistan as well. While I agree, there are many many people in India who are very closed minded and openly preach hatred for Pakistanis, they are definitely in the WRONG.
Imagine the power the two nations could wield if they worked together. We would essentially run the entire sub continent and most of Asia, giving China a run for her money. I think in the Information Age, the archaic differences between our peoples need to be put aside. In the company I work in, run by a Hindu, the top tier employees and highest paid are Muslims. And that has nothing to do with Religion.. its about who is the best person for the job.
It saddened me to learn from some Pakistani friends that in their school textbooks, they were taught from a young age that Indians were their enemies. If you repeat something like that to a young person often enough it becomes a truth to them. Same goes for India.
I was in Colaba outside Cafe Leopold when 26/11 took place, and I managed to escape with my life. Did this increase my hatred for Muslims? Pakistanis? No. It made me angry at anyone who preaches violence and hatred.
We have to learn to disregard these politics of hate. Soon, the old breed will die off, and the youth of both countries will lead their nations forward. I just hope that we can realize how much better our countries can be if we worked together. I have hope, even though many people may call me naive.

Hello Architect. I am happy to know that there are so many Pakistanis who want to be friends. Let me be the first to extend a hand of friendship to all of them and to you. I know many Indians will follow. It may not be easy, but then nothing is easy in this world. This is not helping. Why are you instigating people like this? What good is going to come out of it? By having problems with your neighbors how can you be happy? Why don’t you realize that we are better off having good relations with our neighboring countries than the western nations?
